The Way I See It #236
Scientists tell us we only use 5% of our brains. But if they only used 5% of their brains to reach that conclusion, they why should we believe them?

I don’t really have anything witty to say about this comment, I just liked it.

Lost Weekend
This weekend Mark and I were suppose to get in a long ride. We did - but it was on our Harley’s instead of our bicycles. Great time, but not going to increase my fitness.
This whole year seems to be a down year for me with respect to cycling. I haven’t cycled as often as I have in the past, and although I usually enjoy it when I go, I just don’t look forward to getting on my bike like I use to in past years. I notice that this year I really don’t want to ride in the rain - something I had no trouble tolerating before.
This is my 7th year cycling, and I have done 5 week long tours in the last 4 years, so maybe my body (or my brain) is just ready for a break. Mark is going through the same experience, so I don’t think it’s related to just the stress of a lot going on for me right now.
After talking it over, we decided not to tour on our bicycles this year. We were going to do a week-long tour that included multiple mountains. Then we decided to just do a long weekend, with two big mountains. But we just haven’t been able to get excited about it, so we are going to skip this year.
I am going to devote the rest of the summer to rekindling my passion for cycling. I am going to do a lot more solo rides, and I am going to not worry so much about performance for now. I want to get on my bike and have a good time.
In August I am still doing a three mountain pass ride, and I think that will be fun. It’s a supported ride, so I don’t have to carry my gear, and there will be a lot of camaraderie. It’s also still in the plans to ride Hurricane Ridge later this week, but we will have the Harley’s on that trip as well, so who knows.
Other than my passion for cycling, my other fitness goals are still on track. So rather than panic, I’ll take Keith’s advice and just adjust a few milleters and see what happens.
