Camping Report
I got back from camping yesterday. Lisa and the kids were there Tuesday through Friday morning, and I stayed until Sunday morning. I also had a lot of extended family who came and went during the five days.
We camped at Salt Creek campground, about 30 miles west of Port Angeles. It’s a great place to camp if you don’t mind tent camping. It does have showers now, unlike the old days. The country around there is beautiful. It sits right on the Straights of Juan de Fuca. From the campground you look across the Straights to Vancouver Island in Canada. At night you can see the lights of Victoria. In the opposite direction from the Straights are the Olympic mountains. It is a rugged mountain range, with snow capped mountains year round. Hurricane Ridge is part of those mountains.
During my stay we saw whales, a baby seal, eagles (including a nest with two babies), lots of deer, racoons (thieves!), and great tide pools to explore. I even ventured into the ocean one day, and yep, it’s still really cold up here in the Northwest.
It is a great way to unwind. There is definitely no internet, and phones are sporadic at best. There is a lot of peace and quiet. It’s easy just to sit and watch the world go by. Every evening there was a great sunset to watch, and of course sitting around the campfire every night.
Now - it’s back to the grind and I’m off to work.
