Dog’s really are like children

Kate and Liz both have talked recently about how their dogs are preparing them for children.  I think it’s a fair comparison.  We already have our children, and Bo - our dog - is certainly right in the mix.  He is our 3 1/2 year mostly golden retriever, with some Lab in him.  He is gentle and kind, and loves to play fetch and swim in water.  He is also my son’s roomie - and by that I mean they share a bed together.

Bo hasn’t been feeling well lately.  He has been really lethargic the last couple of days, and hasn’t eaten much.  We assumed it was the heat (you try running around in a fur coat in 90 degree weather), but last night he rapidly started going down hill to the point he wouldn’t even get up anymore.

So we took him to the doggie emergency room.  They are treating him for dehydration and looking at his blood work to see if they can identify what’s gone wrong.  He also might need to be checked out by a neurologist this morning.

We got a call this morning saying he’s doing better, but they are keeping him for now as they try to identify what’s going on.  They think they have an idea, but it hasn’t been solidified at this point.

Bo is getting a lot of prayers sent his way right now.  His family misses him and we want him back - healthy and bouncy.  Lisa might need a few herself.  For the third night in a row she has been kept up past midnight after getting up before 5am.

Wow, I’m sorry to hear that! My dog has been pretty lethargic the past few days from the heat, but luckily she’s bounced back. I hope they figure out what is wrong, it’s so upsetting when your pets aren’t doing well! I wish the best for you and your family!

The heat can really wear them down & hope that’s Bo’s only problem. He’s young & should bounce back quickly!

I had to take our older black lab to the emergency room last year at Memorial Day. Its absolutely no fun at all. One thing they may not offer up (until you ask) is for visiting time with him. The Lake City pet emergency place will let you visit. When we took our dog in, I was the only one she would eat for & their reports had many notes of her “bounce-back” after owners visits. Dogs don’t do great away from the pack. I *really* encourage you to go see him. It will be good for all of you.

Please keep me in touch as you find out more. I have a house-call doggie acupuncturist who is absolutely amazing & helped our girl Bronte when everyone else had given up on her. She actually looked forward to seeing him & getting her treatments!

I will sent an intention in yoga tonight to send healing Bo’s way. I swear it helps!

Blessings…

Apparently dogs really are like children. The average dog has the intelligence of a two year-old child. Which goes a long way to explaining their behavior!

Thanks for the welcome! I’m sorry to hear about your dog. It’s really upsetting when a family pet is sick. They can’t tell you what’s wrong ;( I’ll keep you guys in my wishes, Lisa too.

Yes, my dog is my child. I love her so much. She sleeps in my bed too. I think parents should also use both basic behaviorism when teaching dogs AND small children - as far as setting limits, saying no. When dogs are sick, we feel bad, esp since they can’t really understand what’s going on. I think if you’re mentally upbeat, that also helps your dog’s health. Rub your dog’s belly for me.

Oh, no! My dog has been my best friend through some of the toughest times of my life. I feel for you, worrying about your buddy.

I’m sending good thoughts and prayers your way - for Bo and for his family. I hope he’s feeling better soon!
