About

img_2585.jpgJanuary 1, 2007 is the start of the adventures of Phil - an overweight, over forty male with high blood pressure - and his journey back to health and fitness. I started the year at 239 pounds, and have been as high as 255. My goal is to get under 200 pounds (or 10% bodyfat if that comes first).

I live in the suburbs of Seattle, Washington with my wife of 21 years and two teenagers -  a boy and a girl.  The last member of our family is a mostly golden retriever named Bo.  I am an accountant by trade, and have worked for many years in startup companies, including Sur la Table, Amazon.com, and Revenue Science.  I am currently co-founding Sweat365 with Brad

Phil,

You and I have known each other for better than 35 years and we’ve often had the same issues (except for all those years when we were running partners). I’m back in the boat with you and working on getting back into shape so when we visit our son on Oahu, I don’t have to be embarrassed at the beach! Thanks for putting this together. It should help motivate me to stay on track! I’ll get Beth to sign up too.
Cheers!

I share your pain. About 18 months ago I decided that I needed to lose about 30lbs. I had stop being an elite athlete, I had even stop being a weekend warrior.
So I only knew one way to train and that was to compete at a high level.
So hear I am 18 months later, down 18lbs, and the number one ranked long and triple jumper for the 40-44 master level age group.
I also started keeping track of my training so that others could see what was possible if you think outside the box.
I am new to this site but, I think I am going to like it.

What a drag it is getting old…

Well, I don’t know how much I completely agree with this, but I do know that I’m over forty, just started getting in a shape a few years ago & am borderline high blood pressure. My doc tells me at this point, keep doing the things I’m doing to manage the blood pressure & know that I’m up against genetics. So, I say “kudos Phil”. You’re blessed with a pretty great life, it sounds like. Now if we could just figure out how to make cake, butter, martinis & bacon more healthful than leafy greens, skim milk, bananas & plain water wouldn’t life be grand?!

dude, this site rocks. loads of information and lots of useful tips for heart-rate freaks . it’s stage 18 of the TdF as of this comment. TT tomorrow. man, i hope levi somehow gets the top podium. i think he deserves it more than anybody else. But man I gotta hand it to ya. while some people would prefer the comfort of the couch, you prefer to be productive and strong. that’s some good s… man. drive on!

Hey big fella!! I’m there with you, felling a little older (never wiser), and well above my comfort level as weight and fitness goes. It’s not been an ideal fitness year, with knee surgery knocking me out longer than expected, but I’ve vowed to pick up the pace this next year with a goal of more tri’s, including adding a half iron to the plan, for the first time. Looking forward to tapping in to the site & Lisa’s knowledge to help me put “pen to paper” for a plan.
I hope to reconnect with you & Lisa in the New Year - stay cool & let me know the next time you walk Edmonds and I’ll be there with coffee & water in hand to cheer you on :-)
Happy Holidays! GJ
