Hiked Monument Ridge
Hiked Monument Ridge with Lisa, Mark and Natasha. Oh, and Murphy came as well, along with Mark’s dog Oz.
This was Lisa and Natasha’s first visit to the monuments. It was an 86 degree day, very hot! Murphy found a mud puddle, and stuck his face in it. He hiked the rest of the way half covered in mud. What can I say, he just turned 8 months old, and he is clearly still a puppy.

Hike Edmonds Hill
Mark and I put on our 35 pound packs and hiked up Edmonds hill from the Ferry to Five Corners. We did it twice.
It was 8 miles and 1,000 feet. My shins and feet didn’t like hiking on cement.

Hiked Monument Ridge in the snow
Mark and I took the dogs (Oz and Murphy) on a 9 mile hike up to Monument Ridge. It snowed the entire time, and there was about a foot on the ground by the time we reached the top of the ridge. We also carried packs with 35 pounds in them.
This was Murphy’s first hike. He did great!

Hike Mt Erie
Started at Heart Lake, went around Whistle Lake, then up to the summit of Mt Erie. Carried my backpack with 34 pounds in the pack. This was the kick off of official training for Mt Shasta at the end of June.
It ended up being an 11 mile hike, with 1,600 ft of elevation. We didn’t empty the water we were carrying coming back down, so my feet and knees feel it. There is a reason they tell you to practice hike with water and dump it at the top…

Hiked Devil Mountain
Hiked on Devil Mountain with Mark. It rained the whole time, and snow started showing up about three quarters of the way there, but it was a good hike.

Hike Devil Mountain
Hiked on Devil Mountain with Mark and his dog. The total hike was 2 hrs and over 1,000 ft in elevation gain. My average heart rate was over 140, and I maxed at 176. It’s basically an hour straight up of climbing (around 3 miles), and then coming back down. Going up is a zone 4 heart rate workout, which is what we were looking for.

Hike Mt Erie
Hiked Mt Erie with Mark. Mt. Erie is right outside of Anacortes, Wa. It’s not far, but it is fairly steep. We have cycled up this on our mountain bikes in the past - not easy. I easily got my heart rate into zone 4 for me. It’s about 1,000 feet up, and has a great view of both the Cascade mountains to the east and the Olympic mountains to the west. One of the things inbetween happens to be the Puget Sound. Mark and I have cycled all around these valleys and surrounding hills. It’s some of our favorite places to ride.
Here is the view from the top looking Southwest. The farthest land masses are islands in the Puget Sound:
Here is the view to the East. It’s Mt Baker. I haven’t cycled up it yet, but I did ride my motorcycle up there in the summer. Saw a bear cub next to the road. It was cool.
